Every legend needs its watchful spirits.

At Bucovina Ultra Rocks by UTMB, those spirits are the volunteers who line the ridges, stir the soup pots, light the lamps, and guide each runner home.

Our team is woven from many threads - students and retirees, engineers and artists, locals who know every spruce by name, travelers who heard the mountain whisper once and never forgot. Together they shape an experience that outshines distance: they are the first smile at dawn and the last voice in the night.

Their purpose - and ours - is simple: reveal the wild beauty of Rarău-Giumalău, the Pietrosul Bistriței peak, and every hidden glade in between. When you meet a local volunteer on the trail, you meet Bucovina itself.

Whether it’s your first time or you are returning, volunteering at Bucovina Ultra Rocks by UTMB is about being present when it matters. You stand beside people in moments of effort, doubt, and quiet strength.

You learn to pay attention — to small signs, to needs that are not spoken. Responsibility becomes care: for the runner, for the mountain, for the team around you. Simple gestures — a cup of water, a look, a few words — can carry real weight.

You gain practical experience, but also something deeper: an understanding of people, of shared effort, of connection built through long hours and trust. Volunteering leaves you more aware, more grounded, and more human.
