You’re stepping into a land of legend. The protected natural reserve Pietrele Doamnei hides a story passed down through generations.
In 1541, during Petru Rareș’s reign, his wife, Lady Elena, fled to the Rarău Mountains with their son Ștefăniță, escaping Tatar invaders. As they prayed for salvation, thunder echoed – the rocks collapsed, burying their enemies beneath. “This is the price for our salvation,” she is said to have whispered. The rocks were named Pietrele Doamnei ever since.
You’ll face a steep climb to the majestic Giumalău, then pass through Transrarău, between haystacks and pastoral silence, toward your final ascent: RUNC.
